Ameer is called ‘Marthandam Pillai’



The hundredth day celebration of Subramaniapuram was held yesterday at Sathyam cinemas. discussing about the legacy of his view finder. He said that he is using a view finder which was given to him by his mentor Bala to whom the same was passed on by his guru Balu Mahendra who in turn got it from his guru. He told Sasikumar that though he got this view finder after completing three good films, he does not want to make him wait for that long and will give the same to Sasi after he records one more hit.

When director Sasi got up to speak he said, “Although I’m very happy that Subramaniapuram ran to packed houses for 100 days all over Tamil Nadu, I feel bad that such success was not felt in my home town Madurai.” When talking about Ameer in a joyous mood, he quipped, “It is very difficult to get appreciation from Ameer. He would always be finding faults even with the best of scenes and I always call him Marthandam Pillai from the famous character of Gemini Ganesan in the film Unnal Mudiyum Thambi from whom good accolade is a rarity

Kollywood converges on Rameshwaram: Actors not to participate



The cream of Kollywood today left for Rameshwaram to participate in the protest against the atrocities being inflicted on Tamils. The group of more than 2000 people of the film industry headed by Bharathiraja, president of the Director’s association boarded the specially chartered Rameshwaram express from the Chennai Egmore station

at 4:15 p.m. today. The train was flagged of by veteran director K.Balachander who said that this was the expression of solidarity to the suffering Tamils by people of the film industry. Most of the 2000 people who are part of this demonstration are either directors or technicians. Some of the prominent names who were spotted at the Egmore station today includes Ramanarayanan, Bhagyaraj, Editor Mohan, Cheran, Manobala, producer Dhanu, R.K. Chandran, Pandiarajan, Santhanabharathi among others.

The train is expected to reach Rameshwaram at around 6:30 a.m on Sunday morning. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the accommodation of all the participants in the protest, with around 450 rooms being booked. A small meeting will be held at around 10 a.m. after which a protest march will be taken through the town which will end at a 100 acre ground in Tillakkadu at around 2 p.m. The total expenditure of the protest has been estimated to be close to 15 lakhs. Bharathiraja said that this was one of the occasions when people in the film industry were setting aside all their differences and standing united for a common cause.

The event will however lack the presence of the big screen stars. Vadivelu is the only prominent actor who will be taking part in the protest. The artistes are expected to take part in a separate protest for the same cause on the 1st of November that will be held in the Nadigar Sangam office premises.

Demonstration in Rameswaram



The who is who of Tamil cinema gathered in Rameswaram yesterday to express solidarity and protest the killing of ethnic Tamils in Sri Lanka by the army. The protesters included directors, technicians, stunt masters, and junior artistes. A special train with 20 bogies was arranged to transport the protestors numbering

2000 and the train reached Rameswaram on Sunday morning.

The procession started at 2.30 in the afternoon with the participants wearing black badges that displayed slogans supporting the cause of genocide of ethnic Tamil community in Sri Lanka. The procession was divided into four divisions and had directors and producers in the first division, actors in the second division, stunt artistes in the third division and members of the Women's wing of the South Indian movie employees' association in the fourth line.

The rally culminated into a meeting at 4.00 in the evening with speeches that voiced concern over the issue. 5,000 policemen were deployed at the site to avoid any unforeseen incidents. Also, in support for the protests and the cause noon shows of theatres in Chennai and all over Tamil Nadu were suspended.

Vijayakanth addresses DMDK youth conference



The Saturday's youth wing conference of DMDK, led by Vijayakanth saw a whopping number of participants. The conference was held in Island Grounds, Chennai in which representatives and party members from different parts of Tamil Nadu participated.

Traffic was largely slow moving for

the whole of Saturday in Chennai city owing to the inflow of party members for the conference. The Island Grounds was bursting at its seams from where Vijayakanth addressed the conference and made promises like 'finding solution to the power crisis in less than five months' if elected.

Mount road and other important routes in the city were busy with slow moving vehicles long after the meeting was over until eleven on Saturday night.

Recently I suggested that our band perform in the Wills Lifestyle India fashion week while showcasing Chennai designer Rehane's collections and the organizer agreed to do the same and the event was a great success." Endhiran




Shankar gets it right all the time, stills of his movies grab eyeballs, just like in Sivaji. But, this time the magic doesn’t seem to have worked. The opening still of Endhiran has gone almost unnoticed. Some said that they couldn’t recognize that it was the Superstar, others said it looked more like an English movie. The calculations on the new look seems to have gone a bit off track. The Kuselan debacle and the Hogenakkal bitterness seem to have played a part in the dull response.
However, the leaked stills from the shooting spot were able to
generate vibes.
